It used to be that marketers needed to write sophisticated codes to build software to send bulk emails, make a report out of telephone data or add up the number of conversions in a week. Lacking that skill, you needed to buy something that fit right out of the box, or you needed to throw your weight around to get on the IT developer’s calendar.
